ABOUT ME
Hi! I'm Jessica Ann, a writer turned developmental editor. Realizing my gift for seeing the bigger picture, I began studying developmental editing more in depth and have been certified by the Editorial Freelancers Association.
Wanting to apply all that I had learned and sharpen my skills, I offered my services to fellow writers in my writing groups for practice and, through word of mouth, have slowly grown my editing business over the last few years—because sometimes we are too close to our passions to see clearly.
I've spent years traveling the world, living a thousand different lives. A storyteller at heart, I explore my life and mental health on my Substack: A Woman on the Verge, while working on my first fiction novel. And if I'm not writing, I'm reading, because one cannot be a writer without being a reader. My desire to read and create stories that are meaningful drives me to

Good structural editing means someone sees your book more clearly than you do and trusts you to handle what they find. Jessica was the developmental editor on my debut novel. Even before the „meat“ of the task, she showed herself to be a proactive and forthcoming communicator, leading me through her process step-by-step. Having never worked with a developmental editor before, her clarity helped me grasp the scope and my responsibilities within it. Jessica was quick to respond to questions and offer advice at every stage of the project. Her work – consisting of both a detailed editorial letter and extensive manuscript editing – was detailed, clear, and genuinely helpful. She was able to point out challenges of every aspect of the manuscript which, having drafted and re-drafted it many times, escaped me (and the 4 beta readers that took a crack at the script before her).
Her instructions were so detailed in fact, that much of my editing will be going line-by-line and correcting what she pointed out. After sending her work, she gave me sufficient time to work through it myself. We sat down together once I was ready and went through her feedback in detail. Jessica was happy to brainstorm with me on ways to improve the manuscript and methods to best implement her advice. In the aftermath, I know exactly how to edit my manuscript in order to polish it and give it a good chance on the market.
