Editing Services
We've all been there—finishing a novel or even a short story is one of the most fulfilling moments—but then it comes time for feedback. It can feel scary putting your work in other people's hands. On top of that, the choices are endless. Critique groups, writing partners, beta readers, and developmental editors. Do you need them all? Is one better than the other? How on Earth are some beta readers free, some so cheap, and why are developmental editors far more expensive?
What is developmental editing?
Developmental editing isn't a line-by-line reading, nor is it a proofread of your work. When editing, I'm looking at the big picture: structure, character arcs, pacing, worldbuilding, tropes, and other elements that might be hindering your story without the right tweaks.
Whether you choose a full developmental edit or an evaluation, I offer a free discovery call to discuss your project, identify the areas you want to focus on, and ensure we are a good fit. It can be nerve-racking to entrust your work to another, and I want to make sure you know your art is in good hands.
Developmental edits are great for those struggling to get the feedback needed to take their story from good to great. The editorial letter and in-line comments I provide will give you actionable suggestions, along with my reasoning, to make specific changes and guide you through the editing process.
What genres do you cover?
-
General Fiction
-
Women's Literary Fiction
-
Romance (all subgenres, including dark romance)
-
Fantasy
-
Thriller
-
Dystopian
-
Memoir
If your genre is not on my list, I most likely do not cover it and would not be the right fit for your manuscript. While I do cover dark romance, I do not read any horror or work with books with any form of explicit/extreme mutilation.
How are payments made?
Prices listed and payments must be in euros, and payment will be made via Stripe. My services will be laid out in an official contract with all terms & conditions.
Please note that if you're within the EU, VAT will be applied on top of the price listed.
A 50% deposit of the price is requested upon signing the contract to secure your spot on my calendar.
Payment plans can be discussed.
Policy on AI usage:
I do not use any form of generative AI in the editing process, nor do I submit your work to generative AI detectors or any other AI programs.
At this time, I also do not work with those who choose to use generative AI for any part of the creative process. This does not include grammar programs such as Grammarly.
This is a personal choice, and if you are set on using generative AI to write your book, we will not be a good fit.

Free Discovery Call & Sample Edit
While not every client requires a sample edit, discovery calls are essential before moving forward with a contract. Discovery calls give us both the chance to see if this is the right fit for your project. You can talk more about your book and what you're looking for, and I will guide you through my process and what to expect from beginning to end.
Entrusting your work to someone is a deeply personal process, and both parties should be sure they're comfortable and confident before moving forward with the editing.
Sample Edit:
If you're still unsure after the discovery call, I offer a sample edit of the first chapter/first 5k words for 50€. Here I will make in-line comments and provide a short summary to give you an idea of my editing style. You'll receive the sample edit within 7 days from submission. If you're happy with the sample and want to proceed, the cost of the sample edit will be deducted from the final price.

Manuscript Evaluation
Professional editing isn't always in the budget, which is where my manuscript evaluation comes in. Here you will receive:
-
A full editorial letter of 7-15 pages (or more if necessary)
-
A 45-minute follow-up call to discuss any questions you may have and brainstorm any ideas or notes I've given.
A manuscript evaluation does not include:
-
Comments or notes within your manuscript.
-
Line editing or proofreading
The turnaround time for evaluation is also shorter than a full edit, usually taking around two weeks, depending on the final word count.
Manuscript Evaluations are a flat rate of €990 (plus VAT where required).
3
Full Developmental Edit
A full developmental edit is where I dig deep into your manuscript, leaving notes/comments throughout your work, along with an editorial letter. All full developmental edits should be sent as a Word document, where I will keep Track Changes on so you can see the edits and notes I make along the way.
A full developmental edit includes:
-
A full editorial letter of 7-15 pages (or more if necessary)
-
Notes and comments throughout the manuscript give clearer guidance and actionable suggestions to fix any issues found that are impeding your story. I will then expand or highlight these suggestions in the editorial letter.
-
A 1-hour follow-up call to discuss any questions you may have and brainstorm any ideas or notes I've given.
Full developmental edits are based on word count at €0.02/per word (plus VAT where required).
